Appalachian Axe Small | 1055 Carbon Steel With Hickory Handle

The Boker Plus Appalachian Axe Small keeps the cutting authority of a forged axe in a 13.98-inch format suited to one-handed camp work. Its 1055 carbon steel head uses a classic Rhenish-style profile with a broad 4.13-inch edge for kindling, light splitting, and general firewood preparation.

The pronounced heel can serve as a turning nose when repositioning small logs and rounds. A protective lacquer coating helps shield the head from weather, while the American hickory handle supplies the toughness, elasticity, and shock resistance expected of a traditional axe handle. The head is secured with a wooden wedge and steel sleeve for a double-wedged fit.

At 28.22 ounces, the axe carries enough head weight to work efficiently without demanding the space of a full-length felling axe. It belongs in a camp, cabin, truck, or bushcraft kit where kindling and small chopping jobs are routine. A leather sheath is not included, so plan for safe edge protection during storage and transport.

What it’s for:

  • Splitting kindling and handling light campfire preparation
  • One-handed chopping and small-log positioning around camp or cabin
  • Truck, bushcraft, and outdoor tool kits with limited storage space

  • Forged 1055 carbon steel head with Rhenish-style profile
