American Sector Tin Sign
The American Sector Tin Sign reproduces the stark multilingual checkpoint notice associated with Berlin’s American sector during the Cold War. Printed in English, Russian, French, and German, the original boards warned travelers that they were leaving the American-controlled area and became an enduring image of divided Berlin.
This display-size plaque uses vitreous enamel over steel with raised glossy lettering. A white field, black border and text, and the “US ARMY” credit in the corner retain the utilitarian typography of the checkpoint boards rather than polishing the design into generic retro décor.
At 20 x 30 cm / 7.87 x 11.81 inches, it fits an office, den, study, workshop, or historical display. Four pre-drilled corner holes make mounting straightforward, but hardware is not included. The sign is suitable indoors or in a covered outdoor location and should not be exposed to harsh chemicals.
