The Surveyor’s Compass is a diminutive working instrument presented on a hand-turned mahogany desk stand. Brass, steel, paper, and wood are used where their properties make sense: nonferrous brass around the compass, a magnetized steel needle inside, and mahogany beneath.
The paper compass dial and steel needle sit within a brass casing measuring 2.75 inches square by 1.5 inches high. The stand turns a field instrument into a desk object without disguising how the compass works.
It is suited to a surveyor’s office, map room, engineering desk, or collection of traditional navigation instruments. Keep it away from steel objects and magnets when checking direction.
