Classic Wood Splitting Knife

A two-handled splitting knife is one of those old tools that remains useful because nobody has invented a more complicated way to improve it. Made in Sweden, this traditional design works with both hands for splitting kindling or removing material during woodworking.

A short carbon-steel blade sits between two barrel-shaped, red-stained birch handles. The arrangement provides controlled leverage for fireside kindling and drawknife-style carving work.

Materials & Construction

  • Carbon-steel blade
  • Two barrel-shaped, red-stained birch handles
  • Metal ferrules between the blade and handles

Specifications

  • Blade length: Approximately 4.5 inches (115 mm)
  • Blade thickness: Approximately 0.10 inch (2.5 mm)
  • Overall length: Approximately 14 inches
  • Made in Sweden

Care

  • Remove wood dust, sap, and moisture after use.
  • Dry the carbon-steel blade thoroughly and apply a light coat of suitable oil before storage.
  • Use with stable, properly supported wood and keep hands clear of the cutting path.
